A Personal Touch

The mood of the nation following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks soon followed by a World Series featuring the New York Yankees produced an outpouring of sentiment and huge television ratings. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Curt Schilling customized his cap for the postseason, writing “God Bless America” on one side and “NYPD” and “NYFD” on either side of a silver police badge in recognition of New York City’s first responders. Schilling was named series co-MVP with fellow pitcher Randy Johnson.
