Putting the Game on a Globe
After the dominant St. Louis Browns captured the 1886 World Series, team captain Charles Comiskey was featured in this commemorative poster standing atop a globe that doubles as a celestial baseball. Comiskey was instrumental in establishing the American League in 1900, but he would later be known as the tight-fisted owner of the Chicago White Sox, whose players threw the 1919 World Series. His teams fared poorly after the scandal, and Comiskey never again stood on top of the baseball world.
