Philadelphia Clubs at Home

Philadelphia Athletics manager Connie Mack commissioned this print with the home schedules of his team and their National League counterparts, the Phillies. (The poster was also a tribute to the A’s former star pitcher, the recently deceased Rube Waddell.) On these schedules, only the St. Louis teams were west of the Mississippi River, and Washington, D.C., was the southernmost club. It would be another half century before Major League Baseball planted its flag on the West Coast.
