All-Stars

Players chosen for the All-Star Game exemplify winning, even if their own teams have losing records. Although fans have been accused of voter fraud in attempting to elect most of their team’s players—notably for the Reds (1957), the A’s (1974) and the Royals (2015)—managers are less swayed by player popularity in choosing a roster. The seven American League All-Stars shown here in 1937 were chosen by manager Joe McCarthy, and all went on to the Hall of Fame.
