Home Run Mania
When shipbuilding executive John Tattersall purchased the sports files of the defunct Boston Transcript newspaper in 1941, the crusade to develop the definitive home run registry began. Over years of cataloging and correspondence, Tattersall and a handful of other dogged researchers added large swaths of previously missing information to baseball’s historical record. The eventual result was this 4.3 pound, 1,300-page compilation of 120 years of documented major league home runs. Today the listing is maintained online.
