Scouting Report: Minnie Miñoso, 1963

Minnie Miñoso debuted with the Cleveland Indians in 1949, then became the first black player on the Chicago White Sox in 1951. When Branch Rickey, advisor to the St. Louis Cardinals, filed this report shortly before the 1963 season, he was not ready to deal away Miñoso. But just two weeks later, the Cards sold him to Washington. After retiring in 1964, Miñoso appeared in a few White Sox games in 1976 and 1980, thus having played as a major leaguer in five decades.
