Scouting Report: Willie Mays, 1955
Pittsburgh general manager Branch Rickey was in his last season with the Pirates when he wrote up this short report on New York Giants outfielder Willie Mays, who was then in his fifth season of a twenty-two year Hall of Fame career. Rickey noted that there were few options in pitching to him: after all, Mays was just coming off his first National League MVP season and would hit .319 in 1955, leading the majors with 51 home runs.
