Marilyn and Mr. Coffee

Joe DiMaggio’s baseball talent took him from selling newspapers to headlining in them as the New York Yankees’ magnificent centerfielder. He appeared in Manhattan café society and on numerous Best Dressed lists, and both of his wives were actresses: Dorothy Arnold and superstar Marilyn Monroe. In 1973 the otherwise private DiMaggio reemerged and introduced himself to a new generation, one that knew him mainly as the pitchman in dozens of TV commercials for the Mr. Coffee coffeemaker.
