Cubans in the Majors

As baseball’s bible, Spalding’s Official Baseball Guide provided annual comprehensive coverage of the major—and many minor—league teams. This Spanish-language edition covered Cuban teams, such as the Jugadores del Habana, seen here. At the time it was published, several white Cuban players were in the American major leagues, including Rafael Almeida and Armando Marsans, who starred for the Cincinnati Reds. Both black and white Cubans signed with African American teams and later the Negro Leagues.
