Satchel Paige

Pitcher Satchel Paige was forty-two years old when he signed with the Cleveland Indians in 1948. Prior to that, his skill and showmanship made him a legend on the Negro Leagues circuit. Playing professionally nearly year-round for forty years, Paige claimed a plausible but unverifiable resume of some 2,000 wins in a variety of leagues and on numerous teams. He last pitched in the majors for the Kansas City Athletics when he was fifty-nine.
