Mail Call
Although Jackie Robinson received hateful letters from people who were angry that a black man was playing in the major leagues, he also received mountains of fan mail and telegrams, such as those shown here. The telegram on the left was sent after Game 1 of the 1955 World Series. In the one on the right, a fan salutes Robinson for his playing, as well as his civility, during the 1956 World Series after the Dodgers won Game 6 in ten innings. Shortly before that contest started, Robinson had congratulated New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen on his perfect game from the previous day.
