Family and Community

Lynn Johnston continued the tradition of aging characters, which had begun in Gasoline Alley, but also broadened the scope of comics by making central the voice of Elly, a wife, mother, and woman who evolves over time. Shown here with members of her community, she appears startled when her house is chosen as the venue for a library fundraiser.
