Fantasy in Alternative Comics

Against a psychedelic backdrop, Trina Robbins depicts a young woman dancing joyfully with Wonder Warthog, a parody of Superman created by underground cartoonist Gilbert Shelton. With wry humor, Robbins pays tribute to her fellow artist and the freewheeling atmosphere of the late 1960s in a page for the story 1969. An early, influential female cartoonist in underground comix, Robbins became a founding contributor and editor of Wimmen’s Comix, an important title in this movement.
