Assertiveness Training Not Needed

Pert and assured, a secretary admonishes her startled-looking boss to use more courteous language in this cartoon by Dorothy McKay. She undoubtedly drew on her experience working in advertising agencies in creating this and other scenes of women in business settings. The New Yorker published only six of her cartoons from 1934–1936, but she found other outlets, primarily Esquire, where her lively, deftly executed cartoons featured witty captions and sophisticated humor.
