Response to a Hate Crime

In this episode of her acclaimed, long-running strip, Alison Bechdel explores interaction among a women's bookstore staff who discover that a display window has been smashed. Responses vary, but the disturbing implications of the incident register with all. Running from 1983–2008, Bechdel's comic features a cast of appealing, mostly lesbian characters, the challenges they face in relationships, and discussion of broad political concerns. Bechdel also won critical and popular praise for her graphic memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic (2006).
