Proto-Feminist

Snagging the lollipop intended for her friend, Little Lulu displays her resourcefulness in getting the better of her male playmates. Marge Henderson Buell debuted her comic in 1935 in the Saturday Evening Post, where it became a hit and ran until 1944. She eventually delegated writing and drawing to other cartoonists but maintained rights to her creation for many years, capitalizing on Lulu's popularity by developing an array of products and projects.
