Exhibition Geppi Gems

Pop Culture

Visual arts have featured and promoted the work of musicians for centuries, but in the 1960s, graphic designers set out to promote concerts in eye-catching ways that led to a poster-collecting craze. As the national distribution of products increased, marketers capitalized on television coverage of performers by placing their images in comic books and magazines, and on lunch boxes—even cereal boxes. Steve Geppi’s passion for pop culture led him to acquire posters, magazines and collectibles that reflected the new culture built around rock music.
