One of four original titles published by Milestone Comics, Icon, along with Static, Hardware, and Blood Syndicate, featured culturally diverse superheroes that have been especially significant in the history of Black characters in comics. Milestone Comics, a coalition of African American-comics artists and writers including Christopher Priest, Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle, was founded with the intention to increase representation and visibility of minorities in comics.
