The Avengers Featuring Captain America

One of the most popular comic book characters today, Captain America, created by legendary creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, originally debuted in Captain America Comics, no. 1 (1941). The decline in popularity of superhero comics after World War II, however, resulted in publisher Timely Comics dropping the Captain from its comics series during the 1950s. Formally re-introduced in The Avengers, no. 4 (1964), Captain America would take over the leadership of the Avengers in issue no. 16 and has been associated with the team ever since.
