Cimarron

The nostalgia for the American West, especially for an era when the seemingly unlimited space teemed with white settlers, peaked in the 1960s. With novels and television shows abounding, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer remade the Oscar-winning classic Cimarron, originally produced in 1931 and based on Edna Ferber’s novel. This half-sheet movie poster captures both the cinemascope panoramic scene of the rush to claim land in Oklahoma in 1889 as well as the love story. The National Screen Service provided movie posters and lobby cards to theaters in multiple sizes and designs from the 1940s through the 1980s.
