In 2009, Stephen Dupont embedded with the members of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade while they were based in Afghanistan. In his journal from that time, Dupont describes daily life, foot patrols, weapons searches, supply runs, and Afghan people. He also included fifty-two instant Polaroid photographs showing portraits of marines, along with each man’s handwritten responses to the question “Why am I a Marine?”
