Neighborhood Civic Associations
Neighborhood associations, also referred to as civic associations, date back to the 1920s. However, not until the 1970s was there a groundswell of these organizations across the country to address issues that affect local communities. Unlike homeowners associations, they are purely voluntary. The McKenney Hills–Carroll Knolls Civic Association was founded in 1992. Like many similar organizations, it offers a collective voice to express neighborhood concerns to the county jurisdiction, provides information on community events, and creates a stronger sense of neighborhood cohesion through social events and community service.
