Southern Christian Leadership Conference

Following the success of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, in January 1957 Martin Luther King, Jr., formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) to sustain protest in the South. In 1963 SCLC inaugurated the Rosa Parks Freedom Award. Rosa worked with SCLC in Detroit and attended national events whenever possible. In 1968 she traveled to Washington, D.C., for the Poor People's Campaign, the last major demonstration organized by Martin Luther King, Jr. She was one of the speakers at a Lincoln Memorial rally.
