Early Childhood Experiences

In this autobiographical sketch Rosa Parks recounts growing up in Pine Level, Alabama, on the farm of her maternal grandparents, Sylvester and Rose Edwards, with her mother and brother, Leona and Sylvester McCauley. She describes “keeping vigil” with her grandfather to protect their home from Klansmen, doing chores, and learning to cook and sew.
