Rosa’s Education

Miss White’s Montgomery Industrial School for Girls required its students to wear uniforms and forbade make-up, jewelry, movies, and dancing. Rosa completed ninth grade at Booker T. Washington Junior High in Montgomery and the tenth and eleventh grades at Alabama State Teachers College without these restrictions. She left school before graduation to care for her ailing grandmother. She is shown here as a teenager with a friend.
