The Federal Theatre Project employed photographers in every major city who recorded performances, rehearsals, and images of performers and also captured behind-the-scenes work, stage sets, costumes, audiences, and theaters. This valuable record of more than 9000 images provides a first-hand account of the variety and quality of the performances staged by the FTP. The images shown here include Swing Mikado, Sing for Your Supper, Melodies on Parade, Horse Eats Hat, the “Voodoo” Macbeth, Revolt of the Beavers, Pinocchio, The Cradle Will Rock, Haiti, Professor Mamlock, It Can’t Happen Here, One-Third of a Nation and the O’Neill Players, as well as presentations featuring marionettes and vaudeville and circus performers.
