Collection Description (Extant): The Amelia Wallace Vernon Collection includes transcriptions of interviews used in researching Vernon's 1993 book: "African Americans at Mars Bluff, South Carolina." This work traces the history of African Americans at Mars Bluff from the mid-eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. She describes the efforts of free blacks after emancipation and into the twentieth century to improve their own lives and those of their families.
