Collection Description (CRHP): As with the Hampton Collection, the Miles Collection includes all the outtakes, rough cuts, stock footage, interviews, photos, music, and research created during the production of:
"Men of Bronze" (1977; topics: 369th Infantry Regiment--the "Harlem Hellfighters," a segregated unit that fought under the French flag in World War I)
"I Remember Harlem" (1981; topics: early history, the Harlem Renaissance, the Great Depression in Harlem, the Civil Rights Movement and political activism in the era of Malcolm X, and the problems and redevelopment of the 1970s)
"Black Champions" (1986; the role of black athletes in the fight against discrimination)
"Black Stars in Orbit" (1990; African-Americans in the space program)
"Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II" (1992; black soldiers and the liberation of Nazi concentration camps)
"The Different Drummer: Blacks in the Military" (1983; African-American soldiers in recent decades)
"The Untold West: The Black West" (African Americans in the U.S. west in the late nineteenth century)
Collection Description (Extant): The William Miles collection includes all PBS series and other television programs from 1979-1998. Topics include WWI, WWII, blacks in the military, black athletes, history of Harlem, and black cowboys.
