Repository description (CRHP): The Citadel Archives is currently processing oral histories collected from the Citadel Oral History Program, founded in 2008. The program seeks to deepen understanding of the Lowcountry's rich history and culture through the gathering and presentation of recorded memories from area residents.
The program is currently conducting the "Charleston and the Long Civil Rights Movement Project" which seeks to document how modern day Charleston has been shaped profoundly by the 1960s African American and women's liberation movements, the Vietnam War, suburbanization, natural disasters, and the conservative revival.
The "Charleston and the Long Civil Rights Movement Project" explores the continuously unfolding legacies of these movements through interviews with area grassroots political activists, public officials, community leaders, historians, and cultural workers.
