Repository description (extant): The Idaho State Archives, a division of the Idaho State Historical Society, holds a large collection of material relating to the history of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. The collection is extremely varied in subject, geographic area, and time period. It includes both historical and genealogical information and covers a wide variety of mediums, including manuscripts, public archives, books, periodicals, oral history interviews, motion picture films and videos, microfilm, and maps. In addition, the Idaho State Archives collection supports the Historical Society's other collections as a repository of general reference materials.
[. . .] Since 1978, the Idaho State Archives has been actively engaged in collecting, preserving, presenting, and interpreting the voices of Idahoans and Idaho communities. Staff and volunteers have worked to bring the voices and sounds of Idaho to you. We have an extensive collection of over 2500 audio and video recordings.
Repository Notes (CRHP): The Public Archives and Research Library shares space with the administrative offices of the Idaho State Historical Society. A number of photographs, documents, and interview transcripts held by the Idaho State Historical Society that pertain to African American history in Idaho have been digitized as part of the Columbia River Basin Ethnic History Archive.
