Free to Use and Reuse: Historic Sites
You can visit many historic sites virtually through architectural drawings in the Historic American Buildings Survey, the Historic American Engineering Record, and the Historic American Landscapes Survey Collection. (HABS/HAER/HALS). The drawings provide fascinating perspectives on how a site was designed and can reveal parts of a building not easily visible. The Heritage Documentation Programs at the National Park Service create the documentation, which is made available online and preserved at the Library of Congress through a partnership that dates back to the 1930s. This selection is the tip of an iceberg that represents more than 40,000 sites!
