Other Title

  • Title in Edison films catalog: Arrival of Governor General, Lord Minto at Quebec

Summary

  • "Quebec Winter Carnival series: This picture shows the Governor General, the Earl of Minto, accompanied by the Countess of Minto and their household, crossing the river in ice canoes. On the Quebec side the canoes find a solid ledge of ice projecting about 200 yards from the wharf, and over this the blanket clad snow shoers haul the Governor, his wife and guests. A very excellent picture of the Governor General of Canada clad in his winter travelling costume. 100 ft."--Edison films catalog.
  • "The ice-bridge jam gave way last night, and the river was passable only in canoes; the banks were piled with rough ice and fields of icebergs were floating down the river...It was a most thrilling experience. We got into our canoe on dry land and were pushed and towed partly over the floes of ice and partly in the open river. We had eight men to each canoe, who paddled in the open water and were wonderfully quick in jumping out and pushing the canoe over the ice, singing French-Canadian songs as they paddled"--Lord Minto, a memoir.
