Susan B. Anthony 17 Madison st., Rochester, N.Y., Dec. 25.1902 William H. Topp was a colored man in Albany, New York a splendid man almost white it was said that his father was a Schuyler. He was a Taylor by trade, he made the coats, vests, & pants for William H. Seward, John & Joshua Spencer and the very elite of Albany. Gerrit Smith of Peterboro, N.Y., Charles F. Hovey of Boston, Wm. Lloyd Garrison and Wendell Phillips have sat at his table. His wife was a West Indian woman & very refined and Lydia Mott to whom he gave this copy of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was an abolitionist and the best friend of Mr. Topp & his family. S. B. A.
