- John N. Mitchell, ex-Attorney General and campaign manager to President Nixon pulls back a curtain to reveal his candidate dressed in a leotard and tights who sports his trademark victory sign in a spotlit circus ring. At the lower right of the billboard are bust-length figures of Nixon's Secretary of Treasury John B. Connally and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew.

- - Hess refers to the showmanship style of modern political campaigning in the painting, which served as an illustration for the cover article, "The Coming Nixon Victory" which asserts that Nixon will prevail in the 1972 election with a broad base of support that includes not only the Republican party, but also traditionally Democratic and Independent blocs of voters. In the published version, the Republican elephant was superimposed over the caricature of Mitchell who had been recently replaced by Clark MacGregor, the author of the above article, as Nixon's campaign manager.
