  • -  Title from various reference sources.
  • -  Over the years, scholars have suggested Rome, Venice, and the Croatian towns of Modruš and Kosinj as the place of publication. Cf. Anthony Niseteo, "The First Press in Croatia" in The Library Quarterly, vol. 30, no. 3 (July 1960), p. 209-212; and Barbara Krader, "The Glagolitic Missal of 1483" in The Library of Congress, Quarterly Journal of Current Acquisitions, vol. 20, no. 2 (March 1963), p. 93-98.
  • -  "Let g[ospod]nih [1483] m[ise]ca pervra dni i v [22] ti mis[a]li biše svršeni" [Year of our Lord 1483, in the month of February the 22nd day, this missal was completed] -- Colophon.
  • -  Signatures: pi⁶ A-V⁸ Č⁶. Signed in Glagolitic letters, mostly in alphabetical order.
  • -  The first gathering is a calendar, each line printed across the page (see B. Krader, "The Glagolitic missal of 1483," p. 97); all remaining text is printed in double columns with 36 lines in each column. Capital letters are printed in a slightly larger type descending below the line; some sections of text are printed in smaller type.
  • -  Initials are drawn by hand in red. "The rubrics, crosses, and sometimes the abbreviations for Saint are printed in red, and the remainder of the text is printed in black" -- B. Krader, p. 96.
  • -  The verso of the text leaf preceding the woodcut was left blank, as was the recto of the leaf bearing the woodcut so that these could be joined to form one leaf. The woodcut depicts the Crucifixion.
  • -  Of eleven known copies, none are complete.

The woodcut is hand colored; the blank page on the leaf preceding it has an original illustration that imitates the woodcut Crucifixion scene. Has Glagolitic annotations, drawings and doodles on the pages closest to the woodcut illustration, and whimsical drawings inside the covers, all unidentified. Received at LC in a brown calfskin binding (possibly 16th-century) tooled in blind, with raised bands and 4 brass clasps missing their leather straps. During conservation treatment, the text was disbound, cleaned, and resewn in a new brown leather binding. The original binding and thread are preserved with the book in a linen-covered clamshell box.
