Film, Video Christening and launching Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht "Meteor"

About this Item

Title

  • Christening and launching Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht "Meteor"

Summary

  • The film shows a long dock in what appears to be a shipyard. Approaching the camera position are people in formal attire, both military and civilian, followed by men in formation dressed in German naval enlisted personnel uniforms. The next scene shows the launching platform; the dignitaries attending the ceremonies can be seen over the heads of the spectators. Among the dignitaries are Prince Henry of Prussia, Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, and Alice Roosevelt. The bow of a large sailing yacht with a sign "Meteor" can be seen. A bottle is smashed against the bow and the boat begins to slide down the launching rails into the water"--Early motion pictures.
