About this Item
Title
- A beast at bay
Summary
- Edith and Jack are on their way to the train station when they are accosted by a drunken tramp, who insults them. Edith is peeved when Jack will not confront the tramp. Still angry with him, she drops him at the station and leaves. Meanwhile, a dangerous convict has escaped from prison, and is at large near the train station. The prisoner has overpowered one of his pursuers and forced the man to exchange clothes with him. The disguised convict stops Edith in her car and forces her to drive away with him, in full view of the passengers on the train platform. Jack is alarmed and confused as to why a prison guard would kidnap his fiance. The other two guards arrive and explain. The guards and Jack board the train, and follow in pursuit on the track, which parallels the road. Jack arrives just in time to defend Edith from assault by the violent criminal, who is hauled away by the guards. A grateful Edith is now convinced of Jack's bravery.
