About this Item

Title

  • The Battle Deaths Dataset

Summary

  • The Battle Deaths Dataset was compiled by Bethany Lacina and Nils Petter Gleditsch. The data are packaged in 3 different ways in this work: as 3 Excel files for use with UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflicts Dataset (Gleditsch et al., 2002; Harbom and Wallensteen, 2005); as 9 Excel files for use with the Correlates of War (COW) data on wars 1900-1997 (Sarkees, 2000); and as 2 Excel files for use with data on civil wars 1945-1999 compiled by Fearon and Laitin (2001). A codebook and documentation on coding decisions for the three different packages of the data are also included as PDFs.
