Other Title
- Inventory title: All American news, 1945, unidentified issue
Summary
- All-American news were the first newsreels produced for a black audience. Made in the 1940s and 1950s, they were originally intended to encourage black Americans to participate in, and support the war effort, and to reflect an African-American perspective on world and national events. Highlights of this issue include segments about the retirement of Mr. Lucas, steward on the President's private railcar, who served Presidents Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and Roosevelt; breaking ground for a new theater (probably the Langston Theater) at 25th Place and Benning Road in Washington, D.C.; and a party given at Midway Hall in Washington, D.C., a dormitory for African-American women working for the U.S. government.
