Conrrado describes himself as an official of the Inquisition, an honorary officer of the tribunal in Robaina, and translator of reliable works in a variety of languages on the discovery and exploration of the Americas.
  • -  Conrrado drew upon works in Latin, Dutch, Portuguese, Castilian, French and English, as well as letters and pilots' journals, some in manuscript and some published. His work provides a history of Florida and a comprehensive general description of the New World, including detailed information on geography, natural history, agriculture, native customs and historical accounts of voyages and travels.
  • -  The author's chief source was Joannes de Laet's Nouvus Orbis seu descriptionis Indiae occidentalis first published at Leiden in 1625. Conrrado cites the Dutch edition of 1630 and the augmented Latin edition of 1633/1634. Conrrado's book is illustrated with double-page engraved maps by Laet.

  • -  Bound in 17th-century boards with remnants of marbled paper covers; tan calf spine with raised bands and black leather label tooled in gilt: LAS IND. OCCID. POR BALT. CONRADO.
