  • The manuscript presented here is from the rare books collection of the scientific library of Irkutsk State University. The collection provides information about the geology, climate, flora and fauna of different regions of the Russian Far East and about the lives of the peoples of these areas. Sakhalin is a manuscript about the organization of hard labor and the life of convicts on Sakhalin Island, a notorious Russian penal colony that was visited by Anton Chekhov and described in his Sakhalin Island of 1895. The item was digitized for the Meeting of Frontiers digital library project in the early 2000s. World Digital Library.
