- "The present work sought to understand the potential of art education in youth and adult education (EJA), with the aim of investigating: How to make aesthetic and cultural experience meaningful in youth and adult education? Its objectives were: to investigate the potential of art teaching in the EJA; to research art teaching methodologies in view of the student profile of the EJA; to investigate cultural mediation as a propulsive action of encounters with art and culture for students and to discuss the formation of the teachers of the initial grades as agents of culture. For this purpose an Art Intervention Project was developed in a second year room of Elementary School I of a school of youths and adults from the central region of the city of São Paulo, with the purpose of promoting reflection on how art education has been and how it can be improved. During the project, there was the opportunity to visit with some classes the 32nd Biennial of Art of São Paulo, which generated proposals to broaden the students' art conception and offer an interdisciplinary dimension covering subjects such as body, identity, perception of itself, as well as questions that are present in contemporary times and which are relevant in the education of young people and adults. As a result, it can be said that the Intervention Project made the learning of art teaching meaningful and enjoyable for the students, as they became interested, appreciated and more involved with the discipline, broadening studentsœ understanding of art." -- Unedited abstract from work.
