- M.L. Smoker reads and discusses her poem "The Book of the Missing, Murdered and Indigenous -- Chapter 1" on July 19, 2020, from her home in Helena, Montana. Smoker is a citizen of the Fort Peck Assiniboine Sioux Tribes where her family's home is on Tabexa Wakpa. She is the author of a collection of poetry, Another Attempt at Rescue, has earned an Emmy for her work on the PBS documentary Indian Relay, and currently serves as one of two poets laureate for the state of Montana.
