Summary

  • Angelique, known as Angel, moves from France to the United States to marry American architect, John Smith. The newlyweds set up housekeeping in Los Angeles, California. She tries her best to be a good housewife but sometimes runs into problems as she learns English and adapts to her new life and culture. In this episode, Johnny's mother is coming for a visit. Angel is thrilled to finally meet her new mother-in-law, though Susie has her doubts which makes Angel worry. That evening, Johnny tells Angel that he has hired a housekeeper to clean while his mother is visiting so that she and Angel will have plenty of time to bond. When Susie hears about the housekeeper, she advises Angel to be firm with her. The next day Angel assumes the first woman to arrive at her house is her mother-in-law (it's the new housekeeper), and the second woman to arrive is the housekeeper (it's her mother-in-law). She is solicitous and kind to the housekeeper, but imperious and demanding with her mother-in-law. When she realizes her mistake, she is mortified, but Johnny was right about his mother. Though she was a little confused by Angel's behavior, she was happy to help with the housework and doesn't blame Angel for the mix-up.
