  • The Chakavak Ensemble showcased examples of Persian classical music at the Library of Congress's Coolidge Auditorium. Under the direction of Dr. Nader Majd, the eight member ensemble performed on traditional Iranian instruments such as the tar, kamancheh, santur, zarb,setar, as well as the violin and cello. The concert was in celebration of Nowruz (New Day) the first day of the Iranian solar year (March 20) marking the first day of the spring equinox. Nowruz is an age-old tradition celebrated by the peoples and nations who share Iran's ancient Persianate cultural heritage. Timings: Tar and toumbek (zarb) duet (0:12:00) Ensemble (0:28:20)
