- - Douglas Brinkley is the author of numerous nonfiction books including three biographies: "Dean Acheson: The Cold War Years," "Driven Patriot: The Life and Times of James Forrestal" and "The Unfinished Presidency: Jimmy Carter's Journey Beyond the White House" -- all chosen as Notable Books by The New York Times. His most recent book is "Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War," a New York Times bestseller, and he is editor of "Windblown World: The Journals of Jack Kerouac 1947-1954." He is director of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies and professor of history at the University of New Orleans; he also lives in New Orleans.
