Committed to fostering "bookjoy," she founded El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros, Children's Day/Book Day, the April 30th celebration of childhood, books, languages and cultures. Her book, "A Library for Juana: The World of Sor Juana Inez" (English and Spanish editions), received the 2003 Tomas Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award, and "Maria Paints the Hills" was a finalist for the Texas Institute of Letters Best Children's Book. Her most recent book is "Dona Flor" (Knopf, 2005), an original tall tale. Mora lives in New Mexico.
