The Yours Truly, Frederick Douglass campaign was fully transcribed and reviewed between February 14 and May 31, 2024.
  • The dataset includes transcriptions and data generated from the pages in the By the People campaign Yours Truly, Frederick Douglass (https://crowd.loc.gov/campaigns/truly-douglass/). The campaign consisted of a selection of then-available online images of digitized correspondence from the Frederick Douglass Papers at the Library of Congress digital collection (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.mss/collmss.ms000009). The transcription campaign included the General Correspondence, 1841-1912 series of the collection, which documents his personal and public life and primarily consists of letters received by Douglass. The campaign also includes correspondence, notes, and notebooks from the Addition I series of the collection and invitations from the Miscellany series.   • This dataset includes: 2023514913.zip - a zip file containing a CSV file and a README file and truly-douglass_2025-02-03.csv - a .CSV containing campaign, project, item, itemID, asset, and asset status metadata, as well as an image URL, the volunteer-created transcriptions, and volunteer-created tags. This .CSV is the direct export of the Yours Truly, Frederick Douglass campaign.
  • Note: This dataset may contain UNICODE characters or lengthy transcriptions which may display incorrectly in some spreadsheet editors.
  • By the People collaborated with the Douglass Papers Project of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (https://frederickdouglasspapersproject.com/ External) to crosswalk their existing transcriptions of some pre-1865 Library of Congress Frederick Douglass correspondence into the campaign before public launch. Staff added 476 pages of these transcriptions produced by Douglass Papers Project's scholarly editing team into the database. These items were marked Complete before the public launch of the campaign on February 14, 2024 and were not published to the By the People website.
