About this Item

Title

  • Fears of children

Summary

  • Five-year-old Paul Robbins exhibits fears common among children between the ages of four and six. Paul's fears of the dark, of being alone, and of new situations affect his everyday life. These fears are exacerbated by his mother Helen being too protective and his father Jim being too severe. As the film closes, Helen and Jim begin to develop different attitudes which in time can help Paul achieve better emotional health. This subtle, dramatized case study produced for parents, teachers, and mental health professionals illustrates the importance of constructive parenting in overcoming childhood fears.
