About this Item

Title

  • South of Panama

Summary

  • To bolster his faltering gunrunning business by fomenting a war between two neighboring countries, an American arms dealer, Ace Carney, sends his assistant, Emilio Cervantes, to the Latin American republic of El Tovar, south of Panama. Cervantes, posing as a salesman of modern equipment, provides false credentials and is welcomed by the president of El Tovar. The next day, he puts a few nuggets of gold in the river that serves as the boundary between El Tovar and Caracon, creating a boundary dispute between the two countries. However, when Cervantes falls in love with Carmelita Laredon, the daughter of the president, he changes his mind, deciding to aid the republic and prevent the war.
